Common Surgical Dermatologic Procedures

  • Skin Biopsy

Skin biopsy is performed to remove a lesion or to take a diagnostic sample of a skin rash or lesion, with subsequent examination of tissue using a variety of possible staining and microscopic techniques.

  • Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves removal of superficial skin growths by freezing with liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is applied directly to the skin lesion for a few seconds, causing destruction of the abnormal skin cells, while preserving the surrounding skin. It is a relatively inexpensive, safe, and reliable procedure. Cryotherapy may be used for common skin growths such as viral warts and seborrhoeic keratosis.

  • Electrosurgery

Electrosurgery is a dermatological procedure that uses electric current to destroy abnormal skin growths. It is highly effective for destroying superficial or protruding skin lesions. The precise application of the electrode ensures that there is minimal damage to surrounding skin, as well as no blood loss. Treated areas usually heal rapidly with minimal scarring.

  • Mole Removal

There are various methods used to remove moles. Our consultant dermatologist will perform a full history and examination before advising on the need for mole removal and the most appropriate method for it. Larger or more protruding moles may require surgical excision. Laser removal may be performed for smaller and flatter moles.

  • Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags are skin-coloured growths which commonly occur on the neck, underarms, groins and eyelids. Multiple skin tags may appear around the same area. They are harmless, and can easily be removed by the dermatologist with electrosurgery or laser.

  • Skin Surgery

Skin surgery is an outpatient procedure performed in our clinic for both medical and aesthetic indications to maintain the health, function and appearance of your skin.
